History and description of chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums - autumn suns in the garden! The mysterious guest from the East, who conquers the hearts of florists from all over the world - this is the chrysanthemum. One of the symbols of autumn, it is like the last greeting from the sun before the long winter days. Scientists define its history as dating back more than 15 centuries. Of course, for this huge period, the flower managed to compose various mystical stories and legends. The name comes from the Greek words "chrysos" - gold and "anthemis" - flower. According to ancient Chinese legend, a white dragon tried to enter the sun itself, but it turned out to be stronger and tore it apart. Sparks fell to the ground. They turned into yellow flowers, which they called chrysanthemums. These flowers are also mentioned in Chinese poetry. Combining the beauty of an autumn flower with resistance to cold and wind makes them perfect in the eyes of romantic Chinese poets. The history of the flower is beautiful, but it has many mysteries. According to an ancient legend, an evil Chinese emperor sent 300 young men and women to look for the plant. It was believed that it is magical and contained the elixir of life and could only be torn away by people with pure hearts. They found it on a beautiful island and stayed to live on it. They called it Japan. The chrysanthemum is one of the most traditional flowers in the autumn Bulgarian garden, but it comes from Japan and is wrapped entirely in mysticism! The yellow chrysanthemum means sun and is depicted on the state emblem of the Land of the Rising Sun. Every year in Japan there is a special chrysanthemum festival, where visitors can enjoy the flowers, listen to poems in their honor, sing songs dedicated to them. A chrysanthemum festival is also held in China every year. Whether in China or Japan, these countries even today lead the endless debate about where the flower first appeared. Undoubtedly, the flower is an object of pride and admiration for every gardener. Eastern wisdom advises anyone who wants to live a long and happy life to grow chrysanthemums.
Classification and types of chrysanthemums
Among the fantastic variety of species and varieties, there are capricious beauties who require special conditions, attention, and care, as well as very unpretentious charmers, able to bloom without much care and in very severe weather conditions. They are one of the most popular autumn flowers around the world, and their flowering is abundant, incredibly colorful, and long-lasting. There are a huge number of different types and varieties of chrysanthemums. Classified into annuals and perennials, early, medium or late, large-flowered or small-flowered.
Hemispherical chrysanthemums
Anemic varieties of chrysanthemums Unlike other types, these chrysanthemums have a prominent, raised, and lush center, along which the edges extend from two to five rows of petals. Blooms abundantly and long-lasting in white, yellow, or pink shades.
One of the most unpretentious chrysanthemums due to climatic conditions. They are found in the field and are very similar to chamomile or daisy. They have an open and even center, and at the edges deviate from two to five rows of petals, perpendicular to the middle of the flower. They can be monochromatic or combine several completely different shades (for example, white and yellow, pink and burgundy, lemon, and purple). The heads of the plant are large, with a diameter of 8 to 15 cm. They belong to the early flowering varieties.
Representatives of this group of chrysanthemums are "Grace" and "Denis". They have round and dense inflorescences, and their heads form a large number of small petals, which are located close to each other, forming a fluffy pumping effect. At the same time, the flowers of this variety are average with a diameter of about 6 cm.
Bright representatives of the two-colored species of chrysanthemums. They have double inflorescences consisting of a large number of petals. All the petals extend in the center of the plant without overlapping, and their head reaches about 15 cm in diameter. They are cold-resistant types and bloom in September.
Curly varieties of chrysanthemums They occur as spherical, but sometimes as hemispherical. Densely and chaotically arranged petals, which are curved upwards and create relatively large shaggy heads, which are particularly interesting. Representatives of this species are "Anastasia Green", "Anastasia Leela", and "Chrysanthemum Vesuvius".
Spider chrysanthemums
Extremely interesting and beautiful chrysanthemums! The petals are very long and thin, slightly curved at the edges. Thanks to their chaotically arranged petals, they are defined as spider-like species and are extremely suitable for interesting arrangements and bouquets in the flower industry.
SYMBOLS OF CHRYSANTHEMES
Giving a bouquet as a gift is the easiest way to express your feelings, affection, or gratitude to a person. But what is a chrysanthemum and why is it given as a gift? Undoubtedly, each bouquet brings beauty to every home and brings joy and happiness to the recipient, but it is still good to know the language of the flowers and their history and symbolism. The interesting thing about the chrysanthemum is that in addition to its colors, in different parts of the world, it symbolizes different things.
